I took my parents to see the medieval fair last weekend. I probably wouldn't have gone there all by myself as it seems like it's all the same every year. Lots of nice things to see, but like most theme based things this wasn't that interesting after seeing it many times before. I've been meaning to go and sell my books there but every year I remember it too late and miss the jury date. I think it could be so much fun to be there as a seller. But maybe we're just not meant to be.
We walked through the are before the official opening hours, that's why there's so little people in my photos. Later it would've been way too crowded for me, especially after being at the book fair the day before!
I'm a little late with today's Paperiaarre post, but I'm sure these beautiful photos will make it up. I'm not going to tell you about my day, because June is now the official grumpy customer month. Read happy things from here.
Summer is here, to stay, I believe. It's been too hot for some time, but at least today is a windy day. And the wind blows from the sea. It's funny that I've lived many years in Turku and I've seen the sea less than ten times. I grew up inland, so just knowing that the sea is right here makes everything different. Well, everything is different in here anyway. I like walking along the river, to work, to the city center, to my friend's home. The river is almost always on my side. It's a good friend as long as it stays far enough from me. I don't want to wear a life jacket.
Since I'm not taking any more custom orders this summer, I thought I should make something for the summer brides. So, here they are: White summer daisies with 24k gold centers on fine white linen. Inside of covers is white mulberry paper with little bits of gold leaf. 72 white pages, approx. 7.7"x8.4"x0.8" (19,5x21,4x2cm).
I had so much fun making this that another, case bound book is drying in the press as I write. Maybe a shop update tomorrow then... You'll be seeing me around a lot more during the next week for various reasons! I feel so excited already!
I've been working on a surprise gift and making some books too. More about them later. Grumpy customers are sucking my energy little by little, but I'm still very pleased with my job. Lot's of nice people too (even though they seem to have been in the minority for the last week or so) and who could resist working in a library? I have more evening shifts than usual this week, so I'm still being a lousy blogger. Yesterday was a disaster day, but after seeing these two photos I took yesterday on my way to and from work, I can hardly complain.
